Who We Work With

Most people who find their way to us are feeling detached from who they are. Maybe you've spent your life functioning for the stability of everyone else, quietly carrying the sense that you aren't quite good enough. Maybe you're highly sensitive, deeply analytical, or both, and you're tired of the patterns that keep pulling you back to the same painful places.

Wherever you're starting from, this does not have to be a solo process. We work from an attachment, psychodynamic, and emotionally focused approach that gets to the root of the pain instead of just managing the surface of it. Erica’s style is warm and honest, with room for some humor along the way. She'll meet you in the deeper, more vulnerable places, and stay right there with you so that you don’t have to do the work alone.

The hope at Understory is that you leave our work together feeling more at home in yourself.

What We Treat

Anxiety

Anxiety typically looks like a nervous system working tirelessly to keep one safe: hyper-vigilance, nervous anticipation, and frequent people-pleasing are often indicators that we see in our practice. But there is always room for change and relief. In your work with us, we'll cultivate greater emotion regulation, internal flexibility, and trust so you can move through life with more ease and presence.

Trauma

Trauma can shape the way you experience yourself, your relationships, and the world around you. At Understory we’d like to offer you a compassionate and gentle space to process these experiences, reconnect with your autonomy, and build a deeper sense of safety and authenticity in your life. What has happened to you does not dictate who you get to be.

Eating Disorders

A complicated relationship with food or your body is often rooted in pain that extends far beyond eating. As we like to remind folks, it’s usually not about food, but rather something deeper. Together, we'll explore the protective role these patterns have played while rebuilding trust in your body and fostering greater freedom, self-compassion, and connection.

Substance Use

Substance use can come with stigma and immense shame, which can influence one’s openness for treatment. But we promise this is not how we see you. Your usage is not all of who you are, but rather how you’ve learned to cope. Our work focuses on understanding the needs these behaviors have been meeting while developing healthier, more sustainable ways to find relief and connection.
